Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Enhances Firearms Proficiency

This week, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office conducts its annual firearms qualifications, ensuring that over 100 staff members—including patrol deputies, jail staff, and school resource officers—are certified to carry and operate firearms. The rigorous training involves a range of scenarios, aiming to prepare law enforcement personnel for real-world challenges and enhance their operational confidence.

Lt. Joey Coburn highlights that while Alabama law mandates annual pistol qualifications, the Sheriff’s Office exceeds these requirements by also certifying deputies in shotgun and rifle use, preparing them for various potential incidents. This commitment to comprehensive training not only meets state standards, but also incorporates specialized scenarios such as hostage situations, reflecting the agency’s dedication to public safety and accountability.
