The Post Falls American Legion Post 143 Honor Guard is calling for volunteers to help conduct military funeral honors, as they are the only unit left in Kootenai County capable of providing this essential service. Currently, the team of 13 is stretched thin, averaging about 140 funeral services annually, yet with four members inactive and the oldest aged 92, the need for community support is critical.
Post 143 Honor Guard Commander Ken Johnson emphasizes the importance of this honorable work, stating that every request for military honors has been fulfilled over the past four years except for one. To better educate the public on what these services entail, the Honor Guard will host a demonstration on June 16 at the Post Falls American Legion, providing an opportunity for community members to witness the solemnity of a military funeral ceremony. Those interested in volunteering or supporting can contact Johnson directly.
