A 56-year-old Rockford woman, Jessica Barrera, is sentenced to 32 months in federal prison for illegally purchasing firearms for her son, who is banned from owning guns. Barrera pleaded guilty to providing false statements on firearm purchase forms, knowingly misrepresenting herself as the buyer while purchasing five guns across four transactions between 2021 and 2022.

This case raises significant questions about gun ownership laws and responsibilities within families.
