17 States Challenge ATF Over Gun Conversion Device Plans

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown, alongside 16 other state attorneys general, files a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to block its controversial plans to redistribute thousands of Forced Reset Triggers (FRTs). This legal action arises from a directive attributed to the Trump administration, which allegedly mandates an end to federal enforcement concerning these devices that can convert semi-automatic guns into machine guns.

The lawsuit, announced on June 9, highlights the significant implications of such redistribution on public safety and firearm regulations. By preventing the distribution of FRTs, the coalition aims to uphold existing federal law and address concerns from various stakeholders regarding the potential increase in gun violence associated with these devices.
