2A Groups Challenge Firearm Ban for Nonviolent Felons

The Firearms Policy Coalition and other Second Amendment advocates have filed a significant Supreme Court brief in Melynda Vincent v. Attorney General Pam Bondi, contesting the federal lifetime firearm ban on nonviolent felons. The brief claims that history does not support disarming individuals such as Vincent, asserting that even those who committed felonies were not traditionally stripped of their Second Amendment rights and highlighting legal precedents requiring able-bodied males to bear arms.

In the brief, FPC argues that the federal government cannot justify its ban on firearms for nonviolent offenders, declaring it unconstitutional. This case seeks to clarify a noted conflict across various circuit courts and aims to extend Second Amendment protections to all peaceable adults. The ongoing legal efforts underscore a broader movement to dismantle laws perceived as unjust restrictions on individual freedoms.
