5-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Himself in Omaha

A five-year-old boy in Omaha accidentally shoots himself in the arm after his father fell asleep with a gun in his pocket, leading to serious legal consequences for the father. Trae Colvin, 28, is charged with two counts of intentional child abuse following the incident, where the boy’s injuries, fortunately, are not life-threatening as reported by authorities.

According to court documents, Colvin admitted that he often kept the firearm within reach while sleeping, despite his partner’s concerns about its accessibility to their children. After the shooting, he attempted to apply pressure to his son’s arm before seeking medical attention, indicating that this incident could have been avoided had proper precautions been taken regarding gun safety. A judge has set Colvin’s bond at $500,000 as the investigation continues.
