This alarming statistic, compiled from state death certificates by Protect Minnesota, shows that a staggering 72% of the fatalities were suicides, while 26% resulted from homicides.
Maggiy Emery, Executive Director of Protect Minnesota, emphasizes that this study highlights the pervasive issue of gun violence across the state. Notably, nearly 60% of suicide victims were residents of rural areas, with one in four victims aged 65 or older, shedding light on the demographics affected by this crisis.
