This weekend, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office collected 62 unwanted firearms during a Gun Safety Event held at the North County Superior Court in Vista. Participants received gift cards valued at $100 for handguns, rifles, and shotguns, while those turning in assault weapons received $200, encouraging community members to dispose of these firearms safely.
In addition to the firearms, the event also provided free firearm lock boxes and trigger locks to enhance safety. All collected weapons will be processed, with any linked to crimes referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency, while others discovered to be stolen will be returned to their rightful owners. This initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in reducing gun violence and promotes ongoing opportunities for the public to turn in unwanted weapons safely at local law enforcement agencies.
