The annual Morgantown Urban Deer Hunt continues to thrive, with organizers reporting a successful 2024 season that yielded a total harvest of 143 deer, including 111 antlerless and 32 bucks. This year’s effort has resulted in 1,353 pounds of ground venison, which has been donated to various local food pantries and soup kitchens, benefitting the community’s most vulnerable populations.
Now in its 14th year, the urban hunt has delivered over 14,500 pounds of venison to area charities since inception, showcasing its significance in both wildlife management and food security. Approximately 90 trained hunters participate in the program, which has proven effective in reducing the city’s deer population while providing a sustainable source of meat for those in need.
