Police have arrested five individuals in connection with an attempted vehicle theft in Vaughan, where a homeowner fired a gun during the incident. The suspects, ranging in age from 16 to 22, were apprehended at approximately 4:05 a.m. on Pine Heights Drive after officers received a call reporting the theft, during which they heard gunfire in the background.
The homeowner, a 35-year-old man, was also charged for discharging a firearm and other firearm offenses. This event highlights concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of the bail system, as one suspect was on probation and another had outstanding bail conditions. York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween emphasized the risks associated with taking justice into one’s own hands and the dangers of gun violence in residential areas.
