School officials in the North Penn School District are responding to parental concerns regarding safety after a 16-year-old student was found with a loaded 9mm handgun on high school grounds. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, October 21, has led to increased scrutiny of the district’s existing weapon detection technology, which had not been utilized that day.
During a school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Todd Bauer assured parents that the weapon detection system is now in place and will remain active while the district reassesses its safety policies. The school is also planning a Safe Schools meeting for October 27 to further discuss these issues and improve communication about such incidents moving forward.
