Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 24-year-old woman, Ailyn Mendez, after it was revealed she stole more than $7,000 from bank customers at Self-Help Credit Union in Lamont. The investigation into Mendez unearthed a second suspect, 27-year-old Angel Alfaro, who was found in her residence in possession of illegal firearms, including a loaded handgun and an AR-15 style rifle.
Both suspects face multiple charges, with Mendez charged with grand theft and computer fraud, while Alfaro is arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding security in financial institutions and the illicit activities that can occur within them.
