Accessible Deer Hunt Achieves First Success in Minnesota

In a landmark event, the first-ever accessible deer hunt on the East Grand Forks side of the Greenway results in one of two participating hunters successfully filling their tag. Randy Sorensen, organizer and executive director of Options Resource Center for Independent Living, confirms that a hunter from Frazee bagged a doe on the first day of the hunt, which aimed to enhance outdoor opportunities for those with disabilities.

Despite the challenges, this inaugural hunt reflects a growing initiative to support hunters with disabilities, as only two of four available tags were claimed this year, compared to 40 applicants for 10 tags last year. As Minnesota’s firearms deer season approaches, the state expects over 400,000 hunters to seek opportunities, showcasing a strong deer population bolstered by several mild winters.
