Minneapolis activists are taking a stand against the surge in youth gun violence, calling for urgent action to combat illegal gun trafficking and hold parents accountable. Led by lawyer Nekima Levy Armstrong, the group gathered at the Hennepin County Government Center, emphasizing that such violence “cannot, should not, and will not be tolerated.” With troubling incidents involving young people, community organizer Chauntyll Allen highlights the broader impact: “When one person gets murdered, it… affects the whole community.”

Raeisha Williams, whose brother was killed in a shooting related to social media disputes, advocates for a culture shift away from “no snitching.” She asserts that cooperation with law enforcement is critical for community safety. Police have also recognized the urgent need for extra patrols during the Fourth of July holiday in response to the recent uptick in violence.
