Authorities have identified a juvenile involved in an alarming incident at UMass Lowell, where the presence of an airsoft gun led to a swift lockdown on campus. The event unfolded around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, triggering a massive response from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, who rushed to the scene to search for a reported gunman.
Despite the initial panic, it was determined that no actual firearm was involved; the object in question was an airsoft replica. Around 100 officers assisted in ensuring safety and order, even stationing personnel at residence halls overnight. While classes resumed the following day, Superintendent Greg Hudon emphasized the importance of public safety throughout the event and praised the community for their understanding during the lockdown’s unfolding.
