Alabama Senate Bans ‘Glock Switches,’ Expands Aniah’s Law

The Alabama Senate has approved two significant bills aimed at enhancing public safety, one of which bans devices known as ‘Glock switches’ that convert handguns into machine guns. Senate Bill 116 classifies possession of these conversion devices as a Class C felony, reinforcing existing federal prohibitions and ensuring local law enforcement has the authority to act on such violations.

In addition, the Senate has passed Senate Bill 118, which expands Aniah’s Law to include additional crimes that could deny bail after a pre-trial hearing. Notably, this amendment will allow judges to evaluate cases involving firearm-related offenses for bail denial, as the bill aims to tighten measures against violent crimes. Both bills will move to the House for further deliberation as Alabama seeks to address rising safety concerns.
