The Albany County Sheriff’s Office launches its inaugural gun buyback program on Tuesday, aiming to reduce gun violence and remove illegal firearms from the community. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany County Board of Elections parking lot, where operable handguns can be surrendered for pre-paid Mastercard gift cards—no questions asked.
This initiative is part of a broader PEACE (Preventing Endangerment & Criminal Exposure) program and represents the first of many mobile gun buyback events targeting areas with high rates of gun violence. Sheriff Craig Apple indicates plans for future events every 10 to 14 days, designed to expand reach and accessibility throughout Albany County.
