Albany Man Admits Guilt in Fentanyl Case

Henassy McConico, a 27-year-old from Albany, has pled guilty to charges of distributing a significant quantity of fentanyl pills and possessing a firearm illegally. This admission will subject him to a minimum sentence of 10 years, with the possibility of life behind bars, following the plea announcement by U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III. The court is set to determine his fate on July 23, with federal guidelines indicating a harsh penalty due to his previous conviction for attempted robbery, barring him from firearm possession.

Notably, McConico was involved in the fentanyl trade throughout 2024 and was caught distributing around 485 fentanyl pills on October 15. Law enforcement’s coordinated investigation, featuring the DEA and local police agencies, underscores the seriousness of the opioid crisis in the region. Upon release, he will face at least eight years of supervised release, which could extend to lifetime supervision—a crucial detail for understanding the long-term implications of this case.
