An armed man in Cherokee County, South Carolina, was shot twice by deputies during a tense standoff outside his home, leading to his arrest on multiple charges. Gregory Scott Byers, 58, confronted the officers while holding a shotgun and pistols, threatening a woman before law enforcement intervened. The confrontation escalated when, after being shot, Byers managed to grab a deputy’s gun and fire it, although no one was struck.
Byers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been charged with four counts of presenting firearms at a person, among other charges.
