The Court of Criminal Appeal highlighted Gallagher’s extensive criminal history, including a previous seven-year sentence for armed robbery, and emphasized the need for better protection for shop workers. The judges noted the particularly vulnerable situation of the victim, who was alone in the store when Gallagher entered, demanding money and cigarettes while wielding a weapon.
