A 23-year-old man, Hunter C. Steele, has his robbery charges formally moved to a grand jury after a September 2 preliminary hearing. Steele is charged with first-degree robbery and possession of stolen property related to a May 23 armed robbery at a Shell gas station in southern Laurel County, where he allegedly threatened employees with an assault rifle and stole cash.
Steele was arrested on August 22 while hiding in a shed and was found with a stolen Glock Model 19 pistol. His bond is set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to return to court on September 19. The ongoing investigation into the armed robbery raises significant concerns about public safety in the area.
