The Philippine Army recently confiscated 19 high-powered firearms from an armed group in Barangay Lower Panangkalan, located in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This operation follows a tip-off from a civilian about armed men in the area, highlighting the ongoing security challenges ahead of the May 2025 midterm elections.
According to Lt. Col. Edgardo Batinay, the commander of the 34th Infantry Battalion, the armed group abandoned their weapons as soldiers arrived. This incident underscores the critical enforcement of the election gun ban currently implemented by police and military forces nationwide, aiming to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
