Police have detained a 51-year-old man, Josein Cruz, in connection with an armed robbery at an East Boston convenience store, where he was reportedly armed with a BB gun. The robbery occurred around 8:22 a.m. at East Coast Variety, and authorities are now seeking the second suspect, who allegedly brandished a machete during the incident.
Witnesses reported that the two men stole cash, lottery tickets, and other items, while also damaging the cash register and taking the victim’s phones to prevent them from calling for help. Cruz faces multiple charges, including armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon, and will appear in East Boston District Court for arraignment. The police encourage anyone with information on the second suspect to come forward.
