Art Exhibit Highlights Gun Violence Awareness Efforts

The “Ending Gun Violence: Healing Our Souls” exhibition opened on April 4 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, featuring a moving collection of artwork from local and national artists, including three submissions from Northern Arizona University students. Organizers aim to raise awareness of the profound impact of gun violence in Arizona, where approximately 1,200 people are killed by firearms every four months, and spotlight survivor stories that demand change.

At the reception, speakers from nonprofits such as Moms Demand Action and No Do-Overs shared personal experiences, including Julie Paez, a survivor of a mass shooting in 2015, who emphasized the urgent need for reform and better gun storage laws. The exhibit runs until May 7, showcasing diverse artistic expressions that confront the realities of gun violence, such as Ezekial Hodo’s poignant digital painting, highlighting the link between mental health and firearm-related deaths.
