Students across Georgia are staging walkouts today to advocate for stronger gun laws in the wake of a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where two children were killed. These demonstrations, organized by Students Demand Action, highlight the urgent demand for bans on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, as firearms are now the leading cause of death among children and teens in the U.S.
The protests will begin around 11 a.m. at various schools across metro Atlanta, including Wheeler High School and Charles Drew High School. With at least 91 incidents of gunfire reported on school grounds this year alone, resulting in 31 deaths, students aim to bring attention to the growing crisis of gun violence in educational settings. Their efforts come on the anniversary of another school shooting in Georgia, marking a year of heightened awareness and calls for change.
