Bakersfield is set to renew its agreements with the Wendale Davis Foundation and the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) as part of its ongoing initiative to curb gun violence. This decision comes after a significant decline in group-related gun violence in the city, attributed to a multi-year grant of over $3 million awarded by the Board of State and Community Corrections.
The grant, which supports a public health-based socioecological model, has allowed these organizations to provide vital intervention and prevention services. With an amendment to increase funding for both organizations—$25,000 for the Wendale Davis Foundation and $85,000 for CAPK—city officials aim to extend their collaboration until June 2026, reflecting the program’s success in addressing the complex issues surrounding gun violence in the community.
