Baltimore and Maryland Sue Glock Over Gun Modifications

Baltimore and Maryland have filed a groundbreaking lawsuit against Glock, the prominent handgun manufacturer, in an effort to curb the proliferation of devices known as “auto sears” that can convert semiautomatic firearms into fully automatic weapons. The suit highlights alarming statistics, such as a spike in modified Glock shootings, including a recent incident where 41 bullet casings were found near a car struck 18 times, raising concerns over public safety amidst rising gun violence.

Filed in Baltimore City Circuit Court, this lawsuit is the first to test Maryland’s new Gun Industry Accountability Act, which seeks to hold gun manufacturers liable for the misuse of their products. Maryland officials assert that Glock has long been aware of the issue but has failed to implement necessary design changes to prevent these modifications. As gun violence continues to escalate, authorities are urging action, stating that the availability of these conversion devices poses a significant threat to communities.
