Baltimore has filed a lawsuit against gun manufacturer Glock, alleging that the design of its handguns allows them to be easily modified into fully automatic weapons. This practice raises significant public safety concerns, especially as the city has seen a rise in crime linked to these modified firearms, with police recovering 65 modified Glocks in 2024 alone, compared to 35 the previous year.
The lawsuit, joined by the state of Maryland, focuses on the availability of conversion devices, commonly known as Glock switches, which can reportedly be purchased for as little as $20. Attorney General Anthony Brown highlighted the dangers of these devices, stating they enable rapid gunfire that could lead to increased violence, particularly among the youth, who comprise roughly half of those arrested with such weapons in recent data.
