A Berkeley man faces multiple weapons charges after a confrontation with neighbors over a child retrieving a lost ball escalated into threats and a police investigation. The incident began when a 9-year-old boy chased his ball onto the property of 54-year-old Michael Aschoff, who allegedly warned the child’s family that he would shoot anyone on his land.
Upon investigating Aschoff’s threats, police uncovered a “small arsenal” at his residence, including a loaded handgun and eight other firearms, leading to his arrest. Aschoff has since posted bail and is not in custody; however, he is facing potential felony charges related to both the alleged threats and illegal possession of firearms under California law.
