A 42-year-old black belt karate practitioner named Mairi Kerin successfully halted an armed robbery at a Telford convenience store by delivering a precise kick to the assailant. The incident unfolded when the robber, armed with a knife and a firearm, calmly informed the shopkeeper of his intentions to steal money, prompting Ms. Kerin to act swiftly in defense.
Ms. Kerin’s quick thinking not only prevented any harm to the shopkeeper but also resulted in her receiving a commendation from West Mercia Police for her bravery during the attempted robbery. Police later connected this event to a series of burglaries in the area, leading to the arrest of three individuals sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison.
