The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage showing an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 44-year-old Jose Pineda, Jr. During the incident on September 16, the deputy, Sgt. Gilberto Crespo, approached Pineda’s minivan after reports of an armed man. The footage captures the moments leading up to the shootout, including Crespo repeatedly instructing Pineda to show his hands and Pineda’s unusual response, “I ain’t got no hands.”
As shots rang out, Crespo fires over 20 rounds at the minivan, returning fire while seeking cover. The video reveals Pineda allegedly fired at least 10 shots at Crespo before being discovered outside the vehicle with a handgun. With a lengthy criminal history, Pineda was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz emphasized transparency in releasing the footage while an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues.
