A 38-year-old man from Somerville is arrested in Boston for possessing numerous “ghost guns” and firearm components, amid a search of his residence. Robert Butland, previously convicted of various felonies, including assault and battery on a police officer, had been acquiring firearm parts and advanced 3D printing equipment since 2022, despite his legal prohibition from firearm possession.
During the police search on Friday, law enforcement discovered multiple assembled ghost guns hidden in nightstands, backpacks, and even a locked closet, along with illegal firearm suppressors. Authorities also seized a variety of ammunition types, including 9mm luger and 5.56mm rounds. Butland faces serious federal charges, which carry a potential prison sentence of up to ten years and substantial fines.
