Students from Boulder County participate in a national walkout on Friday, expressing their concerns about gun violence in schools as they march to raise awareness. Around 125 students from New Vista High School led the demonstration, making poignant statements about the urgency of enacting national gun safety laws in response to recent shootings, such as the tragic incident at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis that left two students dead.
Many students, dressed in orange, gathered at local intersections holding signs and chanting for safe schools, stressing the need for legislative change. “I don’t want to die,” emphasized sophomore Izzy Alexander, highlighting the emotional impact of gun violence on today’s youth. The demonstrations, part of a broader initiative by Students Demand Action, aim not only to show solidarity but also to spark conversations around the frequency and impact of gun violence within the education system.
