Boulder Suspect Tried to Buy Handgun Before Attack

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reports that Mohamed Soliman, the man accused of injuring 15 people in a Boulder attack, attempted to buy a handgun at SCHEELS in Colorado Springs before the incident. His application was denied due to a failed background check linked to his immigration status, as Soliman is reported to have entered the U.S. on a tourist visa and applied for asylum shortly thereafter.

In a troubling revelation, the CBI noted that Soliman, who had previously taken a concealed carry class, was ineligible for both a gun purchase and a concealed carry permit. The investigation indicates he intended to use Molotov cocktails during the attack, highlighting a significant gap in monitoring individuals with pending immigration cases who may pose a risk. This raises critical questions about the effectiveness of existing background check systems in preventing potential violence.
