Bridgeport Police Shooting Victim Identified as Dyshan Best

The Greater Bridgeport branch of the NAACP has identified Dyshan Best as the man shot and killed by a Bridgeport police officer during a confrontation on Kossuth Street. The incident occurred Monday evening, following reports of a large street fight involving firearms, prompting police to pursue a suspect vehicle. During the foot chase that ensued, Best was shot and later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

The NAACP emphasized the community’s need for transparency and accountability in the wake of the tragedy, as it collaborates with the state Office of Inspector General overseeing the investigation. Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim has also expressed eagerness for clarity, noting that body camera footage will be released per state law. As calls for answers grow, leaders urge a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal police encounter.
