Bucks Woman Sentenced for Straw Purchasing Guns

A Warminster woman, Kristin Leigh Sweigard, is sentenced to 6½ to 13 years in state prison after admitting to illegally purchasing three firearms for her boyfriend, Edward Cordenner III, who was prohibited from gun ownership due to a prior felony. The guns, including a 9mm Taurus pistol and an AR-15 style rifle, were later seized during Cordenner’s arrest outside his ex-girlfriend’s residence, where he was found wearing night-vision goggles.

Prosecutors described Sweigard’s actions as a “straw purchase,” a serious offense that can contribute to violent crime in communities. During her guilty plea hearing, it was noted that the number of weapons involved heightened the threat posed by Cordenner, who later received an extended prison sentence of 17 to 34 years on gun-related charges. This case highlights ongoing concerns about illegal firearm transactions and their repercussions on public safety.
