Casper City Council to Amend Concealed Carry Rules

The Casper City Council is set to revise its regulations on concealed carry in response to a new state law that eliminates most gun-free zones in public buildings across Wyoming. The legislation, which takes effect on July 1, allows lawful concealed carrying at various government meetings, public schools, and universities, prompting local leaders to ensure compliance by updating city ordinances.

City Attorney Eric Nelson shared that current rules banning a wide array of deadly weapons—ranging from firearms to swords—will adapt to the new law but still maintain existing security measures like bag checks and metal detectors at city meetings. How the concealed carry regulations will be enforced in specific facilities, particularly those hosting school and athletic events, remains an important topic of discussion for council members ahead of a June 24 work session.
