CBS News Chicago’s new documentary series “Miracle Shots” offers a poignant exploration of the aftermath of gun violence, featuring survivors sharing their personal journeys in their own words. The series dives into their stories of trauma, healing, and resilience, with the debut episode spotlighting Marlon English, a survivor of a drive-by shooting in 2015, who reflects on how this traumatic event reshaped his life.
Produced in collaboration with The Trace, a nonprofit newsroom focusing on gun violence, “Miracle Shots” aims to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by survivors beyond the initial incident. “We want to humanize people in a way that goes beyond a headline,” says series producer Samah Assad, emphasizing the need for sensitive storytelling that connects viewers to the ongoing realities of gun violence. The series premieres on August 31 at 10:30 p.m. and will be available online at CBS Chicago’s website and YouTube channel.
