Cheektowaga police have identified a 60-year-old man, Hugh Davis Jr., who was shot and killed by officers during an arrest attempt in Buffalo. The incident occurred after officers sought to apprehend Davis following a series of violent confrontations at a local hotel, where he allegedly assaulted a building superintendent, resulting in serious injury. Police were informed Davis lunged at them with a knife as they approached his apartment, prompting an officer to discharge their firearm three times.
In the wake of the shooting, Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers sustained injuries. The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Buffalo Police Department alongside the New York Attorney General’s Office, with body camera footage available for review. As per departmental protocol, the involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
