The City of Cincinnati has awarded an $850,000 grant to over a dozen local organizations, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, to address critical issues of food insecurity and gun violence. This funding is part of the city’s 2026 Impact Award program designed to establish a network of food resource hubs and urban farms specifically in high-risk neighborhoods, including Avondale and East Price Hill.
City officials highlight the connection between food insecurity and gun violence, noting that the initiative will engage with gun violence survivors and youth in the community. The grant will not only provide food but also create job opportunities through urban farming, projected to yield tens of thousands of pounds of produce. Community engagement and support services will be integral to this multi-faceted approach.
