A Cleveland man, Carl Lewis, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a violent robbery of an ATF informant during a gun trafficking investigation. The 28-year-old and an accomplice brandished firearms and stole $2,500 intended for purchasing weapons, leading to a life-threatening struggle where Lewis attempted to shoot the informant, but the gun malfunctioned.
U.S. District Judge Pamela Barker noted the robbery’s violent nature and Lewis’ extensive criminal history, which includes eight juvenile and 13 adult convictions. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of addressing mental health issues in the justice system and the impact of past trauma on criminal behavior.
