Columbia Man Charged in Yard Shooting Incident

A Columbia man, Kieran R. Piersee, 18, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action after reportedly shooting another man in a residential neighborhood. The incident occurred Friday night when Piersee allegedly confronted the victim for walking in yards, leading him to retrieve a rifle and fire at the man’s legs and feet, striking him multiple times.

The victim claims Piersee fired 12 to 13 rounds during the altercation, emphasizing that he was outside the boundaries of Piersee’s property when approached. Legal experts note that while Missouri’s Castle Doctrine allows for the use of lethal force in self-defense situations, this case raises complex questions about the justification for such action in response to simple trespassing.
