Despite the overall reduction in violent crime, the issue of firearms remains a ‘prolific’ problem as weapons law violations have surged statewide, revealing a troubling trend. Police emphasize proactive engagement with the community and targeted strategies, such as the introduction of a “place-based violence reduction plan,” which has driven down gun-related incidents while fostering collaboration within neighborhoods known for high violence.
