The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has documented a total of 594 gun ban violators in the Philippines from January 11 to February 2, as the country prepares for the May 2025 elections. Most of the violations were recorded in Metro Manila, where 171 incidents occurred, followed by Central Luzon with 112 and Central Visayas with 74. The nationwide gun ban was enacted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on January 12 to promote peace and order during the electoral period.
Among the violators, a significant majority—552—are civilians, while 22 are security guards and additional cases involve members of the Armed Forces and the police. The rise in violations emphasizes concerns over gun-related violence as the election date approaches, making it crucial for authorities to enforce the regulations effectively. This situation raises questions about the enforcement of the gun ban and the potential implications for public safety during the elections.
