Community Benefits from Hunting Season Donations

This hunting season, Wisconsin hunters are encouraged to contribute to their communities by donating deer through the DNR’s Hunt for the Hungry program. Since its inception in 2000, participating hunters have donated over 100,000 deer, generating more than four million pounds of venison for local food pantries. This initiative not only addresses food insecurity but also strengthens community bonds as hunters share their harvest with those in need.

Additionally, the Lions Clubs in Kewaunee and Door counties are collecting deer hides to fund youth programs, including the Wisconsin Lions Camp for individuals with disabilities. The hides, sold to manufacturers of gloves and other products, contribute to important community projects, highlighting the multifaceted benefits of hunting in support of local needs. With extended hunting seasons available until early January, hunters have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact.
