Concerns Grow Over New Power Line Project in Oklahoma

A proposed 40-mile power line project, the Mathewson-Redbud Transmission Line, is igniting concern among residents in central Oklahoma, particularly near Cashion and Luther. While the company Transource asserts that the project aims to alleviate congestion in the electrical grid and save up to $225 million in costs over 40 years, property owners are worried about potential safety hazards and the impact on property values, especially given that the new power poles will stand at approximately 110 feet—nearly twice the height of standard poles.

Local citizens, including homeowners and members of the Oklahoma City Gun Club, are voicing their fears that the power lines could pose risks to safety and health, with uncertainties surrounding the effects of electrical emissions. Transource has engaged in community outreach but has faced criticism for inadequate communication, as not all residents received information about the project. With construction not expected to begin until 2027 and the official route still undetermined, local stakeholders are seeking clarity and reassurance about the implications for their neighborhoods.
