On May 28, 26 students from Cook County ISD 166 showcased their firearm safety knowledge during a practical field day, marking the completion of their Minnesota Department of Natural Resources certification. This event culminated months of training focused on firearm safety, hunting laws, and outdoor skills, offering students hands-on experience at critical safety stations including tree stands and shooting ranges.
ISD 166 Middle School Teacher Emma Spoon highlighted the program’s growth since its introduction nearly nine years ago, as it not only enhances safety education but also enriches the curriculum for local tribal youth through partnership with the 1854 Treaty Authority. Spoon noted the rewarding sight of students exhibiting newfound maturity and confidence during the training, enhancing their foundational skills in firearm and archery safety.
