A New Haven man, William Rosario Lopez, is convicted for multiple armed robberies of gas stations in Connecticut during the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic. A federal jury found him guilty on several counts, including brandishing a firearm during a robbery, stemming from a series of incidents that occurred in March 2020, with Lopez using a silver pistol to threaten employees as he demanded cash.
Lopez’s crime spree included at least five gas stations, where he often wore masks to conceal his identity during the heists. He is now facing a mandatory minimum of 28 years in prison, and his criminal history includes serious offenses like attempted murder and aggravated robbery, which makes his possession of a firearm illegal. His accomplice, Solimar Rodriguez Gonzalez, has also pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing, adding another layer to this troubling case during a time of crisis.
