Cuyahoga County’s 2,000 Summer Jobs Initiative Targets Gun Violence

Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne announces a significant initiative designed to curb gun violence by providing 2,000 summer jobs to young people across Greater Cleveland. The new Office of Violence Prevention aims to engage community leaders and experts to create opportunities that help divert youths from a path towards violence, particularly in light of the county’s alarming rate of gun-related homicides.

The program, backed by $8.5 million in funding, will connect teens ages 14 to 19 with employment at over 400 local sites starting mid-June. According to research from Case Western Reserve University, involvement in summer job programs significantly reduces youth involvement in violence and increases high school graduation rates, making this initiative critical for community safety and youth development.
