During a crackdown on election-related violence, police in the Davao Region report 142 violations of the election gun ban, leading to 38 arrests. Notably, Anwar Saluang, the appointed mayor of Nabalawag in Cotabato, and three of his bodyguards were apprehended at a checkpoint with two unlicensed firearms in their vehicle.
The gun ban, implemented from January 12 to June 11, 2025, aims to ensure a peaceful election atmosphere leading up to the May 12 midterm elections. Authorities emphasize the strict enforcement of this regulation, as violators may face serious legal consequences, including charges of illegal possession of firearms and violations under the Omnibus Election Code.
